Monday Motivation: Crafting Employee Stories That Inspire

Hey friend,
Everyone is talking about storytelling these days. It’s the latest buzz — articles, keynotes, webinars — and yet, ironically, compelling stories in business still feel scarce. There are more stories about storytelling than actual stories that move us, that inspire, that stay with us. And there’s a reason: writing truly great stories is hard. I know — I’ve spent years crafting what I call strategic stories, and I’m still learning, still shaping the craft.
In business, we often have sound strategies, innovative products, and thoughtful services — but the story behind them? That’s where things fall flat. We default to explaining rather than storytelling. We describe features when we should be painting possibilities. We talk about “employee experience” and “human-centred design” — but rarely ground these concepts in a clear, emotional, and compelling narrative.
Great stories don’t just inform—they inspire, connect, and bring values to life. These values shape culture, and culture makes strategy real. As HR and talent leaders, we must see employee experience not as a process, but as a meaningful story—one that employees live, carry forward, and worth telling to others when they leave.
Here’s a challenge to kick off your week:
Draft your own “Employee Story Treatment.”. Treat it like an elevator pitch for your culture — not for investors, but for your employees . What kind of story are they stepping into when they join your organization? What themes run through that story — growth, purpose, connection, ambition? Be specific. Be honest. Be bold. And yes — paste it somewhere you’d see it often.. as a reminder.
Because in the end, the best companies aren’t just writing policies. They’re writing stories worth retelling.
Have a great week ahead.
With Love,
